Meet Chris Allen from Pemberton!

Today, I’m re-posting an interview with Chris Allen I did 2 years ago. Find the interview with Chris here!

One of the first times I met Chris was doing a ride in the Chilcotins. My husband had a broken collar bone at the time and he couldn’t ride yet. He told me I’d be just fine to go with Chris and his wife and friends on this ride, even though I had been riding only about three months. We made sure I had plenty of food and water with me plus a warm jacket, first aid kit, and enough tools and extras to patch together any mechanicals. And then it was off to the alpine!

Everything started very nice with lots of climbing through pretty meadows.

After Camel Pass, things got serious. Here we’re pushing up to the first peak.

Incredible views at the top and just enough space on the ledge for a group photo.

Then a bit of riding down before having to push up to the second peak.

Up to the third peak, there was quite a bit of exposure. But I followed Sarah (orange helmet) and pushed through.

From there, it was a descent down into Cinnabar Meadows and finding the Cinnabar trail. This final trail was the best. A very good reward for a tremendous effort across these mountains. I’ve never forgotten this day… partly because it scared me and I’m not sure about exposure to this day. But also because I’m proud I did this 8-hour day, 20+ km ride.
